Wood burning stoves

These as their name implies are primarily designed to burn wood and may be constructed from cast iron or steel. Some stoves can be fitted with a grate to make them multi-fuel. Wood burns at its best on a bed of its own ash with air supplied from above and not from below, this helps to control the burn giving the best performance. Some wood burners may be fitted with a boiler to provide hot water and a few radiators.

Multi-fuel stoves

Multi-fuel stoves are designed to burn solid fuels which require a grate to keep the fuel above the ash, a riddling device to clear the ash and the air supply to come from below and they also need to make a reasonable job of burning wood, so some have multiple vents and grates that can be turned to make a flat bed and hold the ash. Many multi-fuel stoves can be fitted with a boiler to provide hot water and several radiators.

Gas stoves

Gas is becoming a popular choice for people who want the warmth and character of a stove but with the convenience a gas burner provides, no ash, easy lighting and less demands from the flue or chimney. Some models may have a balanced flue, this allows them to be fitted to an outside wall and the flue just exits through the wall into a terminal, thus no need for a purpose built chimney.

Electric stoves

You will be amazed at the realism achieved by the modern electric stove, with their authentic looks and convincing flame effects, they are simple to install and are ideal for modern houses with no chimneys or lack of a suitable outside wall etc. With a modest output and no water heating facilities they make an excellent addition to a centrally heated room, but if you need a high output you may be better off looking at a different fuel choice.

Oil stoves

Oil stoves are capable of running continuously for very long periods of time. Oil stoves are now comparable with other appliances in the stove sector. Enabling customers the convenience of gas, in areas where there is no mains supply.
